Hands-up who has NOT been busy this year ?! No, me either ! (LOL !)
It’s amazing that we’re into APRIL already, with kids on school holidays, and Easter breaks and long weekends.
The Australian SharePoint Conference (AUSPC) was in town recently, with over 600 delegates and many international and interstate speakers.
The keynote session from Mike Fitzmaurice and Chris Johnson was a SharePoint debate – covering topics such as mobility, cloud and consumerization of IT – and of course, the ever-present-elephant-in-the-room discussion around SharePoint 15. (it was referred to a few times as “FightClub-15” – with the first rule being, you don’t talk about it – LOL !)
The second day’s keynote was about Governance – Beyond the Buzzword – and Dan Holme covered the concepts of People, Process, Policy and Systems – and that the word Governance is almost interchangeable with ‘Management’. This was a great session, one of the highlights for me.
We had some local presenters from MSPUG, and other SharePoint Saturday presenters – Chris O’Connor presented a session about HTML5 and jQuery, which will hopefully get a re-do in coming months at MSPUG, for those that missed AUSPC.
We also had Elaine van Bergen presenting about Sandbox solutions, which is becoming more and more ‘front-of-mind’ for many enterprises, and especially when looking at cloud based solutions (Office 365, for example).
It was great to see many MSPUG folk in attendance, and we had a great meet-and-greet at the user group booth – and gave away an XBox 360 – thanks to sponsors AvePoint, K2 and Quest.
(Congrats to Jeremy Hancock)
Following on from AUSPC, we skipped the MARCH meeting, and we’re having to change the date for the April meeting due to ANZAC Day (25th April). Instead, we’re having the meeting TWO WEEKS earlier – we’ll be meeting on Wednesday April 11th – make sure you let your co-workers & friends know about the changed date – sorry for the confusion !
We’re lucky to have a international guest speaker from AUSPC who is available to present – Jeremy Thake is a SharePoint MVP, and the driving force behind www.nothingbutsharepoint.com – and an architect/evangelist with AvePoint. He’ll be presenting a session about Application Lifecycle Management – will be some great insights into running a SharePoint project – for developers, architects, project managers and so on.
We also have Shyam Narayan from Microsoft, who is a Premier Field Engineer, and has very deep technical knowledge, and a developer/architect background. He’ll be showing us how to utilise Microsoft’s “Access Control Services” – hooking into SharePoint + Azure for authentication/federation.
So – even though we’ve had to re-schedule the meeting (April 11th), we’ve raised the bar with some great sessions & presenters – hope you can make it along this month – we’ll see you there !
** As always, make sure to RSVP to assist with catering (food/drinks).
